Table of Contents
Freelancer Dashboard supports the billing structures used by most independent workers.
Rate types #
- Hourly — Bill by the number of hours worked. Multiply hours × rate on the invoice.
- Fixed Rate — A flat fee for a project or deliverable, regardless of time spent.
- Per Word — Common for writers and translators. Bill by word count × per-word rate.
- Other — Enter a custom quantity and label (e.g., per page, per image, per post).
Rate type is set at the client level as a default, but can be overridden per assignment.
Billing cycles #
- Last Day of Month — Invoices generate at the end of each calendar month.
- First Day of Month — Invoices generate at the start of the month.
- Weekly — Invoices generate every week.
- Manual / Other — You control when invoices are created.
Billing cycle is set per client. If you have retainer clients, monthly is the most common choice.
Invoice terms #
- Due on Receipt
- Net 10, Net 15, Net 30
- Other (custom number of days)
Terms are set per client in Clients → Edit Client.
